The inspiration for this design came from the realization that most people dispense shampoo based on visual estimation, resulting in excess usage and unnecessary waste. With their adjustable volume feature, users can now preset the amount of shampoo they need based on the length of their hair.
The unique feature of this shampoo bottle lies in its adjustable value system. By presetting the desired volume, users can determine the amount of shampoo dispensed with a single press on the push pump cap. Different amounts can be set for different family members, and these values can be marked using color-coded sliders for easy identification.
The bottle itself is made using blow molding technology, while the push pump cap is assembled using injection molded components. Both parts are made from PP, a material that absorbs minimal water, ensuring the longevity of the product.
Using this shampoo bottle is simple. Users can determine the desired shampoo volume based on the printed figures on the bottle and their personal habits. By adjusting the value using the gear, the press depth increases or decreases, ultimately determining the final amount of shampoo dispensed with each press. A complete press on the push pump cap releases the predetermined amount of shampoo. The position of the value pointer can be marked using the color-coded sliders, making it easy to differentiate between different volume settings for each family member.
This innovative design project started in August 2016 in Ningbo and has since garnered recognition. In 2017, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category. This accolade acknowledges the creativity and ingenuity of the design, which incorporates best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The adjustable volume feature not only improves usability but also contributes to a more sustainable and efficient use of shampoo.
The shampoo bottle designed by Weisi Zhan, Yi Teng Shih, and Yushan Rong is a testament to the power of user-centered design. By providing a solution to the common problem of excessive shampoo usage, this design not only enhances the user experience but also promotes sustainability in our daily routines.
